We've been reading in Alma in the Book of Mormon, and Lizzie has been insisting that she be given a turn to read too. So a couple of nights ago we let her in on the verse rotation and she has been doing a really good job. She needs help with some of the bigger words and she doesn't understand what all the words mean, but she's actually been able to read a lot of words without help that we didn't think she would be able to pronounce.
The funny thing is, when Lizzie comes to a word she doesn't know she tries to figure it out, but not too hard. Many times she'll just insert a word she knows that starts with the same letter, even if the real word doesn't look much like the word she knows. Last night, she came to the phrase "they erected fortifications." Well, she didn't know the word "fortifications", so without hesitating she read, "they erected force-fields" and kept on reading.
It was a few minutes before Nicole and I could stop laughing long enough to correct her. No wonder the Nephites were dominant for a lot of the Book of Mormon; they had superior weaponry!
