First Day of School

Kindergarten started today! (and we survived) Here is a picture at our house before we left.

The day didn't start off as well as I hoped. The shirt she really wanted to wear she couldn't get on. Then when we got to the school, she surprised me. At the preschool last year, I was lucky to get a wave as she ran to the toys. This year she wanted us to stay with her for a minute. But when I picked her up, her attitude had changed. She had so much fun, and is really excited to go back tomorrow. I think it helped when she saw someone that she knew from her preschool class.

In case any of you weren't paying attention to the picture, yes she has a bright pink cast on. We still don't know for sure if it was fractured, but the doctor put a cast on anyway just to be on the safe side. She only has to have it on for 3 weeks, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I feel bad that she has to have it on for the first couple weeks of school, but I think that might run in the family. (Both Brad and I have been in that same place, just in different grades) After I picked her up, she was complaining that everyone asked her what she did to her arm, but since that was the only complaint, I think we are in for a really good year!

Explanation

I was going to wait a few days to post this until I knew a little more, but there are some of you that want to know what happened.(although it's a pretty boring story) Liz was riding her scooter and fell down. The next day she was still crying because of the pain while trying to do basic things like washing her hands so I decided I'd better get it checked. After I was forced to hold her arm in positions that caused her even more pain, the x-rays showed no broken bones. However, there was fluid and swelling right behind the elbow which could mean that there is a fracture that just didn't show up yet. (I guess it's common) So he put her arm in a splint, gave us a sling, and set up an appointment for us to see the specialist on Monday. That is when we will find out whether it's fractured and she has to have a cast, or if it's nothing and she will just have to wear the splint for a few days.
She has been really good about it. She hasn't complained too much about wearing the sling. I think for her it's cool to wear it. Unfortunately injuries have been making the rounds in her extended family. When I told her that she would have a sling, instead of the "what's that" response that you would expect from a 5 year old, I got a huge smile and "You mean I get to be just like Aunt...." I'm just hoping this one will be the last one for a while.
